Design a Qualitative Survey and Conduct Reader Research for VredesMagazine
Due to political and international developments, VredesMagazine's readership is rapidly growing. The editorial team needs a representative reader survey and a renewed exchange of ideas with this (new) audience.

VredesMagazine is a quarterly publication produced in collaboration with the Hague Peace Platform (HVP), Humanist Peace Council (HVB), Peace Movement Pais, the Stop the Arms Race coalition, and the Anti-Militarist Research Collective (AMOK) - in Dutch: Haags Vredesplatform (HVP), Humanistisch Vredesberaad (HVB), Vredesbeweging Pais, Stop de Wapenwedloop, and Anti-Militaristies OnderzoeksKollektief (AMOK). Editorial board members are nominated directly by the participating organisations, alongside a number of independent editors. There is no general membership meeting to engage readers in discussions about the magazine’s content and direction. Reader gatherings are difficult to organise and often poorly attended. Now that the readership is growing, there is a strong need for a representative survey and more in-depth input on relevant topics and perspectives.
Problem Description
With this reader survey and opinion poll, VredesMagazine aims to better monitor, adjust, and enrich the content of its quarterly issues.
Ideally, the questionnaire will be designed for repeated use over time.
Assignment Description
The main objective is to design and carry out a representative survey among both long-time and new readers, using a questionnaire distributed digitally and/or by post (possibly supplemented by in-depth telephone interviews). The collected data and responses should be analysed, and then systematically presented and interpreted.
Profile
We are looking for an objective and persistent researcher who can effectively gather readers’ experiences. This is not a standard reader survey: the student will creatively combine data collection with uncovering readers' needs, preferences, and opinions.
The researcher must be able to empathise with the readers and approach them in an engaging and appropriate way—encouraging them to contribute meaningful and high-quality input.
