One of the key aspects here is how efficient the software is in utilization of energy. Energy is mostly consumed by calculations, network communications, input output actions. We also need to elaborate a way of measuring, calculating and estimating energy consumption of the given piece of software or a suite of software components, so that we can have a base line and specify the goals.
