BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
As a researcher, do you have an interesting research result, a groundbreaking technology, or a smart innovation? Our business developers are happy to help you translate your scientific or technological invention into a solution that contributes to societal challenges. How? By building the business case, looking for financing options, finding the right partners, and transferring the knowledge to a spinoff or an existing company.
THE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER OFFICE: FROM RESEARCH TO BUSINESS
On behalf of the University of Twente and Saxion, University of Applied Sciences, the Novel-T Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) is responsible for closing the deal with the industry or spinoff for knowledge transfer. The business developers offer support in marketing your research results or invention. They will work with you to identify business opportunities. Based on this, we look at the best opportunity to get your invention to the market. This could be a transfer to the existing industry or starting a spinoff company. If you would like to be involved in the spinoff yourself, the business developers will support you in this by drawing up a business plan with you. They can also help you find financing options.
As a researcher, do you want to identify the business opportunities of your research? Then join the ‘Entrepreneurial Researcher Program’, during which you will learn entrepreneurial skills and explore the opportunities of your own research activities. Prefer to spar first? Feel free to contact our business developers.
PATENT APPLICATION
You have a cool invention or a smart innovation, but you don’t want someone else to copy, use or resell it. In that case, you can apply for a patent to protect your invention. Do you want to know which requirements you must meet to apply for a patent and need support with this? Our patent advisors are happy to help you!
HOW THE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER OFFICE HELPS YOU
Developing an idea into a market-ready product often requires large investments. A patent helps you to protect your invention and to prohibit others from copying or selling your product. The patent advisors of the Knowledge Transfer Office can advise you on the possibilities of applying for patent protection and put you in touch with patent agents who can prepare a patent application for you. They can also advise you on the patent strategy to be followed.
If you are employed by the University of Twente (UT) or Saxion, University of Applied Sciences, your employer owns the knowledge you have developed. In that case, we will assess whether a patent application for the business case is necessary. If the advice is positive, the costs for the patent application will be financed by UT or Saxion. We therefore ensure that patent applications are filed in close cooperation with the inventors.
