David Fernandez Rivas is an entrepreneur who has developed promising technology based on photonics: injecting ink or medication without the use of needles. In 2017 he won The StartupLaunch with this innovative idea. At present, he is receiving support from the business developers at Novel-T to develop his idea into a market-ready product. Meanwhile, considerable progress has been made and we look back on recent months.
David works as a tenure tracker (Assistant Professor) at the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Twente and is a co-founder of the BuBclean company, a UT spin-off. “I developed the technology for injecting without needles as part of a scientific project, but never had the time to develop the idea further”, David tells us.

A pressure cooker methodology created the necessary pressure and focus. We worked according to a fixed method with deadlines. And from all angles there was professional coaching. For example, colleague Roy Kolkman gave advice on the protection of intellectual property, while you could go to Erwin Holtland, Novel-T expert in the field of investments, for advice on how to attract startup capital, and Peter Langela helped with the development of business plans. In addition, there were inspiring stories from the founders of, for example, Dot Dot World and Clear Flight Solutions, examples of real game-changers who also benefited from the ecosystem.
